I’m not only a nail artist, but I also love wearing press on nails and I use this method all the time. I’ve learned through trial and error that whether you can reuse press on nails will greatly depend on how you remove your nails in the first place.
Removing your press ons in a destructive way can damage them making them unusable at that point.
Here’s the correct way to remove them:
1. Soak nails in hot water for 10-15 minutes to loosen the glue. Make sure water is not too hot, you don’t want to burn yourself!
2. Once the glue has loosened, use your wooden cuticle stick to remove the nail from the cuticle side gently.
3. Repeat the soaking process, if it is difficult to remove the nail. Then start again trying to loosen the glue.
The best way to remove press ons is by soaking your fingers in tolerable hot water for about 15-20 minutes and then gently peeling them off carefully from the sides. You can even use clean floss working it between the press on nail and your nail from the cuticle down, then pull it right through!
Also, here’s how you will want to prep your nail for reuse. Since most people may not have a nail drill handy, here’s a tip for using a nail file.
Cut your mini nail file down the middle.
Then using the top half try to file the glue residue away as much as you can, underneath the press on nail. With the old glue residue gone your nail is ready for its next use.
That’s literally it! Use this method and you will be able to reuse your nails over and over again.
