This post is about how to apply press on nails.
Things needed:
- Nail file
- Nail buffer
- Cuticle stick
- Alcohol
- Cotton rounds
- Nail Glue
Check out this short video on applying press on nails.
FILE/BUFF
The first thing you want to do in prepping the natural nail for the press on nail is to file the edges of the natural nail. The goal here is to get rid of any ragged edges and to straighten the tips and side of the natural nails. If the natural nails are longer, the goal is to get the natural nail shorter than the press on nail and file any sides of the natural nail that may stick out from the press on nail.
Next, you should lightly buff the top of the natural nail. The buffing is just to get rid of the shine on the natural nail so that the press on nail will adhere better when it’s time to apply the glue.
CUTICLE
Oh and guys, please don’t forget pushing back the cuticles is very important. LOL you’ll notice I forgot to show this in the video above…whoops :/
Did you know that pushing back the cuticles makes the press on nails look more natural? Its best to get the press on nail as close to the cuticle edge as possible.
ALCOHOL
Use the cotton rounds with alcohol or alcohol wipes to wipe over every nail. This will get rid of all the buffing and filing residue as well as drying out the natural nail to help the press on nail adhere best. Make sure to allow the alcohol to dry before applying the glue.
Making sure the alcohol has fully dried, add just enough glue to the natural nail, to cover the entire nail.
For the longest wear try adding glue to the press on nail as well as the natural nail. Or try this method of adding nail sticky tabs along with glue on the press on nail.
Our nail sets always include a prep kit that includes a mini cuticle pusher, mini alcohol wipes, mini nail file, mini buffer and mini nail glue.
Tip: The length of the press on nail has a lot to do with how long they will stay on. The closer the press on nail is to the natural nail size, the longer the nail will stay on.
When applying the press on, get as close to the cuticle edge as possible for the most natural look. Make sure to hold the nail in place for about 15 seconds. So the glue has time to adhere, avoid water for about 30 minutes after application.
In general, press on nails applied properly, with glue, should last at least 2 weeks. If they are applied with nail sticky tabs, they may last a few hours to a day. If applied using both glue and sticky tabs, they may last up to 3 weeks, depending on how often and how long they are emersed to water.
How to Remove Press On Nails
If the press on nails are removed properly they can be reused again and again. Also, removing properly will help to make sure there is no damage to your natural nails.
- Soak nails in, tolerable, hot water for 10- 15 minutes to loosen the glue.
- Once the glue has loosened, use your wooden cuticle stick to remove the nail from the cuticle side gently.
- Repeat the soaking process, if it is still difficult to remove the nails.
*You can also use clean floss to get underneath the press on nail (after soaking) and pull it right through!
*If acetone is used to remove press on nails, it will damage the nails and they will no longer be reusable.
When ready to use the press on nails again, it will just require slight buffing on the underside of the press on nail to remove some of the previous glue residue before applying new glue.
