This post is about starting a press on nail business under $100.
As you get sales you would put the money back into the business and later be able to buy better quality products, but for now…
STARTING A PRESS ON NAIL BUSINESS UNDER $100
BASIC SUPPLIES
$25 NAIL LAMP
I would say you should look for a nail lamp of at least 45 watts but the higher the better. There are several out there at this price point. Also, make sure to purchase one that has the different timer settings (30/60/90).
$10 Full Cover Nails
The package of full cover coffin nails will include 500 nails sized 0-9. Long coffin is best because if you need to you can cut them down, which will give you two lengths for the price of one.
$5.29 Nail Stands
These magnetic nail stands are especially great for nail art so that you can remove the piece you’re working on to get to those detailed areas.
$1.25 Buffers/Files
These can be purchased at the dollar tree and they include 24 files in a pack. They also have the 7 way buffers you can use as well. Once you have more money you can invest in better quality files and buffers and buy them in bulk.
NAIL ART
$6.49 Brushes & Dotting Tools
This is awesome that you get the brushes on one end and the dotting tools on the other end and for such a low price. You can create so much nail art with this set. Technically you get the best results if you use gel paint instead of gel polish for your nail art buuuuttt we are trying to stay under budget so we can make it happen with the gel polish for now.
$5.49 Rhinestones
Rhinestones will allow you to create a lot of amazing looks. For those that would like to include rhinestones in your press on nail creations, this set would be a nice start. Later of course you can get into other colors and sizes if you’d like.
$25 Gel polish
It’s your preference but you could start out with the Beetles variety pack of 20 colors, which includes the Basecoat, glossy and matte Topcoat. This will give you an idea of what colors sell more and which you like working with best. I love that this set includes 4 glitter gels! As you make money you could get the bigger bottles in the colors you use the most or start to branch out to other brands, etc.
PACKAGING
$1.25 Boxes
The jewelry boxes include 3 different sized boxes in each package. That’s 3 boxes for the price of one!
$1.25 Double Sided Tape
You will find this at Dollar Tree as Mounting Tape, both sides of the tape is sticky. For our purpose we use it to place inside the jewelry boxes then put the press on nails on top to keep them in place while shipping. Again, later you will want to upgrade to the clear better quality mounting tape like these.
$7.96 Box Labels
You can purchase 20 stickers for your boxes at Vista Print for only $7.96. They allow you to choose the shape, size and material of the sticker. There’s also a ton of designs to choose from.
SHIPPING
$1.25 Bubble Mailers
These bubble mailers from Dollar Tree come in a few different colors and are a great option until you’re ready to buy your bubble mailers in bulk.
$1.25 Clear Tape
The tape is to be used to attach your printed shipping labels to your bubble mailer until you can afford to purchase a shipping label printer with labels that already have a sticky back.
MARKETING MATERIAL
$1.49 Blank Index Cards
The blank (no lines) index cards would be used with the DIY Template below. For some reason, Target doesn’t show them on their website but you can find them in-store in the office section.
$5.95 Thank You/Instruction Cards
Try our DIY templates here and print straight from your printer. You won’t need a business card because all your business info will be included on the card. Once you purchase and receive your link you will see that everything is already there for you. You would edit the template yourself by switching the colors to suit your business if you’d like. Also, plug in your social media handles/logo/business name, save then you’re ready to print.
$97.67–TOTAL
So it looks like with a little budgeting you can start a press on nail business under $100. If you wanted to go without rhinestones, get a cheaper nail lamp, get a cheaper set of gel polishes, etc… you could get the cost down even more. If you’re able to get the cost down, I would recommend using any extra money toward the prep kit items and more nails. As you get sales buy more of what you need to create and package more sets.
