This post is about how to create press on nail designs using nail foils.
Nail foils are inexpensive and one roll goes a long way. Don’t get me started on how long the foil gel will last you. These foils are so easy and come in such large varieties, that I promise you will find yourself buying them all the time!
What you will need
- Nail foils
- Nail foil gel/glue
- Nail foil applicator (or your finger 🤣)
Below are the best steps to make sure you get your foil on the press on nail correctly.
- After you have applied your gel polish in whatever color you like and cured for 1 minute…Wipe with alcohol then buff.
- If you have a matte topcoat you can skip the alcohol and buff method above and just apply one coat of matte gel topcoat then cure 1 minute and apply the foil gel/glue.
- The reason for this is because if you just go from applying the gel polish to applying the foil gel/ glue, without either buffing or using a matte topcoat, then your foil won’t adhere properly to the nail.
Foil Gel Process – Apply the gel in an even layer and cure for 1 minute.
Foil Glue Process —Apply the glue in an even layer and wait for it to dry- takes a lot longer than the foil gel and you will need to use two coats of it. I would just use the foil gel and call it a day since it’s so much easier. 🙂
2. Once your gel/glue is dry cut a piece of the foil (try not to touch the back of the foil as much as possible) in just about the size you need and line it up to the nail nice and flat.
3. Now use you will be using the nail foil applicator tool or your finger to adhere the foil to the nail. The applicator tool has a rubber tip that more easily helps it to glide across the foil to make sure you get an even application. Just apply slight pressure to make sure that all areas of the foil adhere to your nail.
4. Once you think you’re ready you can start to slowly peel the foil away from your nail from the top down. If there is any piece that doesn’t adhere just try to immediately stick it back down and smooth over the top of that area again.
5. The last step is to just apply a gel top coat to seal it and you’re done! There are so many ways, styles and ideas when it comes to using nail foils. You can choose to cover the entire nail, half the nail or even pieces here and there….the possibilities are endless, just have fun with it!
